The incident happened in Bohemia on Lincoln Avenue, at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28.
Suffolk County Sheriff’s officials said the deputy stopped 37-year-old Christopher Brown, of Holbrook, and informed him he was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Amityville.
The warrant stemmed from charges of driving without a license and displaying illegal plates.
Brown then put the vehicle in drive and attempted to flee, dragging the deputy alongside his car and injuring their leg, according to the sheriff’s office. He fled the scene, and his vehicle was later found abandoned.
Authorities did not elaborate on the nature of the deputy's injuries, nor their condition.
Deputies located Brown nearly two weeks later, on Thursday, Oct. 10, and arrested him without incident. He is charged with the following:
- Two counts of assault
- Resisting arrest
- Reckless endangerment
- Obstructing governmental administration
- Two counts of fleeing a police officer
- Two counts of reckless driving
Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon, Jr. commended deputies in a statement following the arrest.
“This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the dangerous work our Deputies face nightly as they patrol to ensure the safety of our roads,” Toulon said.
